Google, where is my privacy?

Unread postby » MOC » Sun, 17 March 2013, 10:44 am | #1 of 5 |

Out of 3 widgets running on my Android phone (FB, Twitter, G+) I am definately using G+ the most. It just seems the easiest of the three to read some quick comments, post a quick comment...

I am not a big facebook user and after the latest 144481 build issue, where facebook released another build update without users permission, outside of Google Play's developer TOS, and which sat in the notification bar and could not be removed without googling the answer!, I am pretty pee'd off.

To clear this notification if you experience this, click your apps drawer to see all your applications, then click the Downloads icon. Clear the failed download from there and the notification and attempt to download the sneaky facebook build will be cancelled. Then if you would like to go to your system settings, then security, and clear the checkbox that allows for installation of non-Market apps to prevent this from happening in the future.

I think this is a joke for Google not to act, to allow this, and for developers like the facebook team to cause this situation in the first place. This really is the first disappointment I have had with google services and hope people voice their opinions. Keep transparency and privacy policies to the absolute benefit of the users of the service, and act on them when broken!

To update this story, Google it seems have acted to stop this behaviour. In an article I just read at The Verge, "Google closes Facebook's loophole, bans non-Play store app updates in Android". Now that's a good move Google.

Hi MOC,

Well, maybe the google have read your post and they have some evaluation. Then finds out that they have lapses that is why they change it. A big credit for you for posting this kind of comments and suggestions.
